Yes RTV needs to set a minimum of 8 hours (orginally was 24) before starting the engine. there is a more user friendly material out now that is usable immediately, is black and comes in an aerosol or 1/2 size cauling tube. Made by permatex. However the book calls for the grey sealer that sets up only once the it is not exposed to air, the opposite of RTV, between the valve box and head. Not RTV (silicone type) Did you also replace the seal/plug that goes above the RF head bolt? That usually is the leak point and takes some work to trak back to there as the oil runs down and out and then is blow by the wind back over the engine, battery box, tool box cover, side covers, jeans etc.. On mine if one looks carefully up above the bolt head behind the pocket the exhaust pipe goes in front of, you can see where the oil leak starts from. I'm living with mine another month or so and will fix it when I cannot ride due to the weather.

NAPA and others make an exhaust sealer that I tried, it worked better than the bronze high temp RTV but again it had a waiting time that makes it hard to use. And it won't fill large spaces. Does the Jardinenot use the OEM gasket or fit the head pipe w/o any gasket. The SuperTrapp I got for the Savage was a slip fit on the head pipe and sealed well with the sealer using one of those fancy spring loaded circle clamps that comes with it. The HD mufflers I ended up using went together w/o any sealer or clamp were a snug drive fit. Only way to fly.

Oil should only be filled to the upper level on the sight glass about 2.1 qts usually for me. There is a thread back on this forum regarding that error in the books/manuals.
